Conventional Literacy
There is a strong relationship between literacy and language. Building skills in language will strengthen skills in literacy and vice versa. Children who are nonverbal or minimally verbal can still build literacy skills, but will need assistive technology when demonstrating competency. Integrating assistive technology into learning during literacy activities will give children an advantage. We have ideas and activities to teach
phonics,
blending,
segmentation, and
onset/rime to children who are nonverbal.
